NBX Inc. is an online sports entertainment company formed in September 2004 and led by former Novell senior executive and USWeb/CKS co-founder, President and COO Toby Corey.

NBX created the world's first Internet based, tournament sportsbook platform for sports enthusiasts and bettors by offering multi-league Tournament contests integrated with community based social networking and private tournaments.

NBX’s technology and products have been recognized by the Fantasy Sports Trade Association as finalists for annual FSTA awards for technology, web site and innovation.

Executive Team

Tobin J. Corey
Founder, CEO & Chairman

Toby brings a unique and highly successful set of talents with 20 years of business experience to his leadership of NBX. From 1995 through 1999 Toby was co-founder, President and COO of USWeb Corporation, which, under his leadership, became the world’s largest Internet consulting firm, serving half of the Fortune 100. USWeb went public in 1997 with a market capitalization of $3 billion. From 1991 through 1995, Toby was Vice President for Novell’s $1.2 billion Netware network operating system business. Toby was also the CEO of Intend Change, a venture construction firm, and held various marketing management positions with Ashton-Tate, and Coleco Industries. In 1983 he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Connecticut State University, concentrating in Economics and Computer Science.

Mike Bennett
Executive Vice President, International

Mike has over 35 years senior management experience in both Casinos and the Online Betting Industry on a world-wide stage covering the Far East, Australia, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa and the U.K including well known casinos like the London Playboy Club, Wrest Point Casino, Adelaide Casino, Morula Sun and the Knightsbridge Sporting Club to name just a few. In 2000 he was appointed Managing Director of a Management services company within the corporate structure of The Ritz Hotel Casino Group in London and began the on-line casino project for that company www.theritzclub.com. He has also served on the Boards of some eighteen companies within the giant UK Ladbroke group – arguably the largest bookmaking organisation in the world. More recently Mike has acted as a consultant to companies seeking to establish online gambling operations in Europe.

Raul Guisado
Executive Vice President, Media

Raul earned a scholarship as a member of the University of Colorado ski team and is a former U.S. Ski Team coach who coached at two Winter Olympic Games and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. In addition, Raul has been an avid writer from a young age and has authored three sports related books. In between all the skiing and surfing that he has done, Raul received a B.A. from the University of California at Santa Barbara and a certificate in Sports Psychology from John F. Kennedy University.

Linda Keala
CFO, Executive Vice President, Operations

Linda has over 18 years of leadership positions in senior management, finance and budgeting, operations, customer experience, and human resources. She has worked in a variety of large and small, public and private companies specializing in Internet professional services, venture construction, software development and manufacturing. These companies have included: Rand Information Systems, Interlink Computer Sciences, Raytheon, Intend Change and USWeb. Linda was an Executive Vice President at USWeb beginning in 1996. She was an integral part of the executive management team who grew USWeb from 20 to over 5,000 employees, acquired 45 companies and grew to almost $1B in annual revenue as the world’s largest web developer. Linda was the Chief Strategist of USWeb’s multi-award winning Intranet and HRIS and its key components including Global communication and management information reporting. Now with ballet skiing and the Cher obsession behind her she will focus on keeping NBX straight.

John Linney
Executive Vice President, Product Management

John brings to NBX a solid background in defining and delivering software products. As Vice President of Product Management at Grand Central Communications he was responsible for their award winning Business Services Network. Prior to that, at Electron Economy he was responsible for a suite of products and services to help customers integrate disparate business processes between trading partners. Previously, John spent 10 years at Novell where he held a variety of positions in engineering, product management, business development and marketing. His responsibilities included introducing Novell's early Internet commerce products, and executing their ISV and channel partnering strategy. Prior to his time at Novell, John held senior engineering positions at Digital Research where he worked on operating systems design and implementation. A native of the UK, John received his Bachelor of Science degree in Computing from Glamorgan University in the UK., after his rugby career ended, of course.

Kirk Reynolds
Director of Public Relations

Kirk has has earned the reputation of being a creative thinker and solid strategist in the disciplines of communications, public relations and publicity. He has worked with super star personalities such as Magic Johnson, Steve Young, Jerry Rice, Ronnie Lott Jerome Bettis and Terrell Owens and dynamic leaders like Edward J. DeBartolo, Bill Walsh and Carmen Policy. Aside from developing strategic communications plans for highly successful organizations, Kirk has vast experience managing the needs of key business partnerships, including broadcasting networks Fox, CBS, ABC and ESPN - $3.5 billion partners with the NFL. He is a one-time recipient and four-time finalist for the prestigious Pete Rozelle Award, presented to the NFL's top PR staff. A native of Santa Barbara, CA, Kirk spent 11 years in the National Football League with the St. Louis Rams and San Francisco 49ers. Prior to the NFL, he served as assistant sports information director at UC Santa Barbara for six years. He graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a BA in Political Science. The framed degree hangs on the wall right next to all of those spit shined bowling trophies.

Hung Q. Tran
Executive Vice President, Engineering

Hung brings to NBX a wealth of engineering skills, passion, and technical management experience. His specialty is in analysis, design, and implementation of large-scale server side enterprise solutions. His expertise is in JAVA, J2EE technology, relational database system, software development methodology, and management of engineering teams. At InterActiveCorp Hung lead a small team of engineers to develop Java web applications. At Electron Economy, as Director of Engineering Hung played key role in development and design of EE’s SCM transaction management platform and lead a team to implement solutions for various E-Commerce clients including: Sony Playstation USA, HardCloud, OneCosmos, Style-360, and many others. Hung’s other experiences include: Senior Engineer at Jacent Technology, E-Commerce Architect at USWeb/CKS, and IT Specialist for IBM Global Services. Hung holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering and Computer Sciences from the University of Southern California. After losing every meet as a high school gymnast he knew Cirque du Soleil was unlikely so he settled for computers.

MK Capital

Mark is a partner at MK Capital. He has worked with the Team for over 8 years. His primary areas of focus are enterprise software, outsourced IT services and online multi-media investments. Prior to founding MK Capital, Mark co-founded Jamcracker, Inc., an enterprise software provider and served as its Vice President of Corporate Development. He has served on the boards of VPNet Technologies, Network Commerce Inc. and was actively involved at Exodus Communications. He currently serves on the boards of BladeLogic Inc., Kontiki Inc., Klir Technologies Inc., NBX.com, and NXTV Inc. He also worked at McKinsey & Co. Mark is a graduate of DePauw University and the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Jordan Levy
Advisor

Jordan is a Managing General Partner of Seed Capital Partners, an early stage technology venture fund which he co-founded in 1999. Prior to engaging in the venture business. Jordan served as Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Upgrade Corporation of America (now ClientLogic), Senior Vice President of Software Etc (now Gamestop), Co-Founder and EVP Sales & Marketing of Software Distribution Services (now Ingram Micro). In his operating roles he managed thousands of people and helped the companies through triple digit annual growth periods that built the foundation for all three of them remaining significant enterprises to this day. He also served as a Director and early investor in Cobalt Networks and GT Interactive Software were he halped both companies through their initial growth period and thru the compaletion of successful IPO's.

James Whims
Advisor

Jim is a Managing Partner at TechFund. He has both founded and managed many high growth companies in Silicon Valley. These include Worlds of Wonder, Software Toolworks and Sony Computer Entertainment. In 1985, Jim co-founded Worlds of Wonder. As the VP of Sales, he drove revenues from zero to $328 million in just 2 years. In 1990, he joined Software Toolworks as President of the Consumer Division. Jim led a restructuring effort, which brought the company back to profitability and the successful sale of the company. In November 1994, Jim joined Sony Computer Entertainment as Executive Vice President and headed up its efforts in North America with the launch of the Playstation. Sales catapulted from 0 to just short of $1 billion in the first 12 months under his leadership. This success led to numerous awards including the prestigious 1996 Marketing Executive of the Year award from Brandweek/Adweek. He received his MBA in Finance and Marketing from the University of Arizona and he holds a BA from Northwestern University in Economics and Communications.

Bruce W. Gilpin, Jr.
Advisor

Bruce is an expert in corporate finance, mergers & acquisitions, and operational management. Bruce was the Executive Vice President, of Worldwide Mergers & Acquisitions at USWeb/CKS. Bruce was President and COO of Intend Change, a venture construction firm. He also co-founded and was Chairman of Free-Rein Corporation. Most recently, Bruce was the CFO of APX Inc. Bruce holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Occidental College.

Michael Abbott
Technical Advisor

Michael founded Composite Software in 2001 and drives the technical vision of the company. Prior to founding Composite, he was CTO and EVP of Electron Economy. Prior to Electron Economy, he was a Director at USWeb/CKS. He has published widely and speaks regularly on database and XML topics and participates in a JSR Expert Group, on the XML Query Working Group at the W3C, has served the President of the Silicon Valley BEA Users Group, and was the founder/chair of the XML Sig for the Software Development Forum for the past 3 years. Abbott completed Ph.D. research at the University of Washington and is a member of IEEE and ACM.

David Belfiore
Online Sports Entertainment Advisor

David Belfiore has most recently held the position of Founder and CEO of Action Online Entertainment. AOE is an online casino that has held licenses in two regulated environments. Prior to founding Action Online, Dave held positions for ten years in casino operations with Bally’s Park Place Entertainment, and Caesars Palace, managing activities including table games procedures, game security, customer tracking, service, and internal controls. Since then, he has continued to work in casino marketing as an independent agent involved in player development programs for Caesars Palace. David holds a B.S. in Finance from the University of South Carolina.

Bill Cleary

Throughout his career, from shilling peanut butter and jam, to calling the Pepsi Challenge, to selling the power of the Web (his buddy Al invented it), Bill has built a nice record of success, to say the least. His secret is in helping lead clients to identify the most powerful message and then hammering it home by integrating it across all relevant media. In addition to driving the strategy behind all of the work in his current portfolio as Principal of Cleary & Partners, Bill's previous role as founder of CKS Group led him to drive branding campaigns that launched or grew to become major digital companies, including Yahoo, Excite, Silicon Graphics, Amazon, AdForce and eBay. Because of his leadership and experience, Bill is regarded by many as the technology and consumer-tech branding guy and has been involved in the launch of numerous hardware, software and peripheral products.

Royal Farros

The 2000 Winner of the San Jose Business Journal Entrepreneur of the Year award, Royal Farros co-founded and was CEO of MessageCast, Inc., sold to Microsoft in 2005, founded and was CEO of iPrint.com (taken public in 2000 and merged with 12th largest promotional products company in U.S. in 2001), was an Officer and General Manager at Deluxe Corporation (NYSE:DLX), and was Chairman and EVP of T/Maker Company (sold to Deluxe Corporation in 1994). Royal hold multiple patents, has appeared numerous times on CNBC, and received his B.S. (1981) and M.S. (1983) in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University.

Robert Hoff

Bob has been a General Partner at Crosspoint Venture Partners since 1983. In addition to making dozens of superlative investments over the course of his career in venture capital, Bob had the vision to provide early stage financing to USWeb Corporation in 1996, well before the Internet investment boom took hold. Bob has also been a past director of the National Venture Capital Association, past president of Marwit Capital Corporation, and past President of the Southern Pacific Regional Association of Small Business Investment Companies. Bob has held management roles at General Electric and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Bucknell University. Bob earned an MBA at the Harvard Graduate School of Business.

John Mumford

John is the founding General Partner of Crosspoint Venture Partners. In addition to being one of the legendary Silicon Valley investors for over 30 years, John was the co-founder of three public companies: Hello Direct, Inmac, and Office Club (Office Depot). John is a past advisory board member of Silicon Valley Bank, a past director of the National Venture Capital Association, and a former management consultant at Peat Marwick Mitchell. John holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Arizona State University and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

David Gray
International Advisor

David is a Veteran of the UK gaming industry, involved with the creation and operation of a number of leading UK and European Casinos including The Ritz Club, Palm Beach Casino, Casanova Club and Rendezvous Casino in London and the Carlton Casino Club in Cannes, South of France. In 1989 David led the Management Buy In and the private acquisition and ownership of the pre-eminent gaming club Crockfords. Subsequently following the successful launch of the company, Crockfords Plc on the main London Stock Exchange in 1993, two other London landmark casinos - The Colony Club and The Mint Casino were acquired. Following its successful development the company was taken over in 1999 by the UK's largest casino operator, Stanley Leisure.

David was involved with Action Online Entertainment, together with David Belfiore and Crosspoint Venture Partners helping to obtain one of the five original licenses in the Isle of Man. Currently acting as a Consultant and Advisor to a number of Gaming and Leisure operations around the World.
